FAIR OAKS / SACRAMENTO COUNTY — NOVEMBER 5, 2026. The California State Senate District 6 election remains under review as counties count ballots cast November 3. Republican incumbent Roger Niello held approximately 52% of the votes reported Thursday afternoon to 48% for Democratic challenger Sean Frame, according to a November 5 report from Abridged by PBS KVIE referencing the California Secretary of State’s returns. The percentages are rounded and are not a certified final tally.

Why the numbers changed after election night

Initial election-night results and later county reports do not necessarily have the same lead or margin. The Ballot Book’s clearly timestamped November 4, 1:40 a.m. snapshot showed Niello with 117,675 votes (51.8%) and Frame with 109,317 (48.2%). Its older totals should not be relabeled as Thursday’s exact vote count. The November 5 report describes the approximate Thursday distribution, not an exact district-wide update matching the Wednesday record.

Who are the candidates?

Niello has served in California’s Legislature as both an Assemblymember and a senator and has business experience in the automobile industry. Frame works in multimedia at the Sacramento County Office of Education and previously served on the Placerville Union School District board. Their campaigns present competing perspectives on statewide spending, education, taxes and public services.

What happens next

County election officials continue reviewing and tabulating eligible mail and provisional ballots. A candidate’s public confidence about eventual victory does not substitute for the election office’s certification. California counties have until December 3 to certify their returns, and statewide certification follows December 11.
